Classes Are Back in Session at USAPA University

Like so many other colleges and universities throughout the country, classes are back in full swing at USAPA University. And, another attribute that closely resembles other institutions of higher learning, this University is more fun that you can possibly imagine.

Recently, USAPA University held its fifth annual get-together at the site of its very first set of classes – Granlibakken Resort in breathtaking Lake Tahoe. With the majestic tall pines of the Sierra Nevada Mountains as its backdrop, students were transfixed with the surrounding beauty. On court instruction was once again led by Robert Elliott who was ably assisted by Jennifer Lucore, Nicole Hobson, Tim Finger, Rick Lampson and Matthew Blom, who by the way, as an outstanding musical talent, entertained the students and other onlookers as an accomplished Paddle Pickin’ Pickleballing guitar player.

The USAPA University features two full days of pickleball training; working on various skills from serving to dinking to overall court coverage and strategy. Most students come away with a new appreciation of the sport and are better equipped to handle their next competitive matches.

With sponsors Engage Pickleball, Selkirk Sport, Onix, Franklin Pickleball and California Sport Surfaces providing the ultimate in pickleball products and services, students from across the country were offered the very finest the sport has to offer. The common denominator in every activity was Fun!

Once the instructional aspect of the University is completed by the students, graduation ceremonies, complete with certificates is coordinated by the USAPA staff. After all the pomp and circumstance, the Instructor Challenge Pickleball event was held where instructors play against one another, displaying many of the shots and techniques that were taught during University classes.

Perhaps, the real highlight of this USAPA University was when several of the students took on some instructors and, using all the knowledge gained, took down the pickleball profs in all three of their challenge matches. Plans are now well underway for the 6th USAPA University which will be held on January 30 – February 2 at the spectacular Club Med Sandpiper Resort in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

2020 will also play host to numerous other Universities during the year. Stay tuned. For more information on the USAPA University, e-mail Pat Murphy at trainingchair@usapa.org.
